The Five Pillars of Islam (also known as “Arkan-e-Islam”) are the basics of every Muslim’s faith. They guide Muslims in praying, characteristic (Akhlaq) and connection with Allah SWT. Every Muslim, including a child or an adult, learns and follows these pillars to live according to Islamic teachings.

What Are the Five Pillars of Islam?
The 5 pillars of Islam are Shahadah (Faith), Salah (Prayer), Zakah (Charity), Sawm (Fasting during Ramadan) and Hajj (Pilgrimage to Makkah). These are the main core concepts of each muslims life.
The Five Pillars of Islam Explained
(1) Shahada (Faith)
The first pillar of Islam is the Shahada. The shahada is saying (أشهد أن لا إله إلا الله وأشهد أن محمدًا رسول الله) “I bear witness that there is no god but God, and I bear witness that Muhammad ﷺ is the Messenger of God”
When someone says Shahada by heart they become a part of the Muslim Ummah.
(2) Salah (Prayer)
Salah (Namaz) is the second pillar of Islam which is a must for every muslims to perform 5 times a day (at their time).
These 5 prayers are Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib and Isha.
(3) Zakat (Charity)
Zakat is a very important step for those who possess wealth that reaches the Nisab threshold (minimum required amount).
Eligible muslims must pay 2.5% of the whole whealth each year to those in need.
(4) Sawm (Fasting)
Sawm, Fasting during the holy month of Ramadan is mandatory for every adult muslim (except kids, sick or travlers or elderly people).
The fasting time starts from Fajr to Maghrib (sunset) during this time muslim are not allowed to eat or drink anyting.
(5) Hajj (Pilgrimage)
Hajj is the fifth pillar of islam and that is mandatory for those who are physically and financially able to perform, at least once in a life.
During the Hajj, muslims across the globe gather in Makkah to perform their hajj and seek closeness to Allah SWT.
